Sentence awaited
in wife’s death

What ever happened to Scott Edwards, accused of murdering his wife who died in a fall from the 12th floor of Hale Koa Hotel at Fort DeRussy in Waikiki?

He entered a guilty plea Nov. 12 to a charge of second-degree murder in the death of his wife, who fell from the balcony of their room at Hale Koa May 31, 1996.

Edwards, 31, a computer technician and resident of South Korea, is scheduled for sentencing March 30 before U.S. District Judge Alan Kay.

Federal prosecutors said his wife, Kyong Edwards, 22, a South Korean national, died in the fall after the two had an argument.

Edwards admitted acting recklessly but said he didn't intentionally cause his wife's death.

He faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment without parole and fines of up to $250,000. Prosecutors said his sentence could be reduced by at least 10 percent by pleading guilty.

Edwards served 11 years in the Air Force. He is being held, awaiting sentence, at Halawa Correctional Facility.

An American citizen, he lived in Seoul and worked for a U.S. company installing semiconductors.
