Specials

Hawaii Literary Arts Council is accepting nominations for the Hawaii Award for Literature. Fiction, poetry, drama and certain types of nonfiction writers are eligible. Recipient will be selected on his/her literary achievement and relevance to Hawaii.

Get in touch with your creative side with two group studies focusing on books by Julai Cameron.

From 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, the group will discuss Cameron's book titled "Artist Way"; and from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursdays, another group will discuss Cameron's book "The Vein of Gold."

Contests

Hawaii Chapter of the National Society of Arts and Letters is accepting applications for the 1998 Literature Competition. Applicants must be between 19-29 years old as of May 17. Winner will receive $10,000. Works must contain "a fictional character who embodies some of the concerns of contemporary America." Open to works of any type.

To receive an application form and complete set of rules, mail a self-addressed envelope and $15 check made out to "Hawaii Chapter, National Society of Arts and Letters" to: David W. Doyle, 65 Hanapepe Loop, Honolulu, Hawaii 96825 by Jan. 1.

The National Competition will be held from May 15-17 in Ann Arbor, Mich. Deadline for writing entries is Feb. 9.

South Florida Writers Sixth Annual contest is accepting short fiction, poetry, plays and essays.
