Source of mysterious Manoa water leak found
After searching all night, Board of Water Supply crews located a mysterious water leak at 9:30 a.m. today in an 8-inch pipe near Pipa Place in the upper Woodlawn area of Manoa Valley.Brooks Yuen, deputy water supply manager, said the leak affected hundreds of residents.
A roving water wagon was sent to Manoa overnight and this morning, but the pipe was expected to be fixed by lunchtime.
Yuen said the leak was noticed about 7 p.m. when water levels in a reservoir began dropping. Crews hiked to the pipeline in the valley and shut off water at various points along the line to try and locate the leak, Yuen said.
Keiki I.D. Program gets $10,000 donation
Chevron Hawaii Refinery today announced a $10,000 equipment contribution to Oahu's eight community policing teams to expand the successful Keiki I.D. Program.Since the program began in April, more than 12,000 ID cards have been issued. to parents. The cards feature the child's name, address, medical information, thumbprint and updated photo for parents to use to find their child in case of an emergency.
The sets of equipment donated by Chevron to the police include a camera, laminator and film.
Police Chief Michael Nakamura said, "Keiki I.D. promotes child safety, while at the same time, it familiarizes children with police officers in their communities."
High court suspends lawyer for 6 months
The Hawaii Supreme Court has suspended attorney Ralph Sahara from practicing law for six months. The court imposed the suspension, effective Jan. 9, for misappropriation and co-mingling of client funds.

A 21-year-old man is in critical condition at Queen's Hospital after crashing his car into a utility pole last night on Kamehameha Highway near Johnson Road.No one else was injured in the one-car crash that was reported to police at about 10:30 p.m.
Firefighters were called to remove the man from his car.
Speed appears to be a factor, police said.
Fallen utility poles slow Waimea traffic
Traffic today was slowed on Kamehameha Highway near Waimea Bay as Hawaiian Electric Co. crews continued to restore three utility poles that were knocked down yesterday.A 26-year-old Sunset Beach woman lost control of her van, which struck the pole at about 6:30 p.m. yesterday.
The pole fell onto the roadway, blocking both lanes of Kamehameha Highway about three-tenths of a mile north of Iliohu Place on the Haleiwa side of Waimea Bay.
The falling pole also brought down two other poles.
The woman was not seriously injured. Power was temporarily cut off to several hundred Heco customers. Police had one lane of the highway open today.
Heco crews were hoping to complete their repair work by early afternoon, police said.
Two men accused of promoting porn
Police yesterday arrested two men, ages 60 and 18, at a Wahiawa rooming house on Wilikina Drive for allegedly promoting pornography to minors.Wahiawa police came across 12 boys and two girls at an empty store located on the first floor of the rooming house. Police discovered pornographic videotapes and magazines in the store.
Two fishermen robbed; suspect is at large
HILO -- Police are looking for a man who robbed two fishermen at Reed's Bay yesterday, they said.A 65-year-old visitor from Los Angeles was approached by the suspect, who demanded his wallet, then hit him and knocked him into the water before he could respond.
The victim's friend, a 78-year-old Hilo man, tried to help but was also threatened.
Both men gave money to the suspect, who then fled on foot.
The first victim was treated at Hilo Hospital for a cut on his head.
The suspect is described as 20 to 30 years old, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, with a dark complexion, short hair and a mustache, wearing a dark shirt, blue pants, and slippers.
Big Isle men arrested in cockfighting bust
HILO -- Police arrested three men for cockfighting at a vacant lot in the rural Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision south of Hilo yesterday, they said.They also recovered 25 injured roosters and confiscated more than $2,200 in cash.
Man reported missing is located by police
Police located a 26-year-old man who was reported missing.Channing Yoshizawa was found in Waikiki at about 9 p.m. Friday, police said.
