Becoming a 'global teacher'

Phyllis Unebasami, former principal of Enchanted Lake Elementary School, has nothing but praise for Lena Kanemori.

"Lena Kanemori is an enthusiastic 26-year veteran teacher," Unebasami said. "Her boundless energy takes many forms at Enchanted Lake -- from the gifted and talented teacher to the technology coordinator to the supervisor of the Junior Police Squads."

The main thing is helping students and teachers alike become aware that computers are a great resource, Kanemori said.

She does a lot of web publishing. "That's one way of becoming a global teacher," Kanemori said. "I believe that I am trying to prepare students for the 21st century."

She also teaches technology to other teachers.

Additionally, she's a facilitator for the Technology Literacy Challenge Fund.

"She has successfully collaborated (on) and written two grants this past year that have schoolwide impact for our technology program," Unebasami said.

"Her enthusiasm is infectious and her determination impressed Central Pacific Bank so much that they agreed to partner with (the) school. Through this partnership, she worked with students to create a Web site on the Internet."

The bank provided computer equipment, assisted with school field trips and presentations of students and took part in other activities, Unebasami said.
