Dear Santa,
key boxes wantedFOLLOW-UP to some items from Monday's column: Both Joe Anthony and Al Souza took lots of joshing from friends over each of them locking their keys in their cars the same day last week. And on Monday, Anthony visited pal Jerry Wong, parking his car behind Wong's Dropery and driving with Wong to Club Palm Springs to watch the Monday Night Football game "live" on satellite. Souza joined them there and you might not believe this, but he locked his keys in his car again. This time it was Anthony, proudly dangling his keys from a chain, offering Souza a ride home. Wong gave them a ride to the lot where Anthony had parked his car. You got it -- the car was there, but the lot was chained up. These guys have a regular comedy routine going. Taxi!!! ...
AND speaking of keys, we mentioned former Grace Pacific president Dennis Conway appearing on the Jenny Jones show Friday over a scam involving his car. He actually got his car back, he e-mails, but learned that "EXTRA" had set up the scam where a restaurant "valet" got his set of keys while he went in to dine, and during the time he spent there, "EXTRA" folks visited his home (thanks to the registration papers in his visor) and took a photo of it to demonstrate how he could have been robbed while lunching. The segment appeared on "EXTRA," prompting the call from Jenny Jones. Conway says he learned from the experience and now gives valets only his car keys, keeping the registration hidden ...
AND a final Monday follow-up: We mentioned KWAI radio sexuality hostess Diana Wiley Pietsch having dated President Bill Clinton when he was at Oxford, and yesterday morning there she was being interviewed by Diana Ako on KHNL-TV just before the "Today Show" came on. I missed most of her interview, but it must have been juicy, judging from the schoolboy giggling of weatherman Guy Hagi after it ...
Reunion at reunion
WHEN Kimo McVay, former owner of Duke Kahanamoku's nightclub, heard about the advertising world's Old Timers Reunion tomorrow night at Murphy's Bar & Grill, he decided to put together a mini-reunion to coincide with it. Kimo began by getting his longtime adman, Tom Nieman, to fly in from San Francisco for the event. In addition he'll have such former Duke execs as John Rader, Henry Ayau, Steve Lent, Adrienne Sweeney (who was Don Ho's secretary) and of course Don and Honey Ho as well. Also agreeing to attend was Donn Tyler, at whose Commercial Recording studio "Tiny Bubbles" was recorded by Sonny Burke. Kimo also contacted Carlos Rivas on the Big Isle and Rick Ralston, who printed the first "Suck 'Em Up" shirts, and Tim Tindall, who McVay reckons has about 500 Suck 'Em Up glasses he took home after consuming the contents. It should be a great party and Don Murphy is donating 10 per cent of the bar sales to the AAF District 13 Scholarship Fund ...
Namba number
DESIGNER Anne Namba is back from a fashion show she produced in conjunction with an art gallery opening in Santa Barbara. One partner in the gallery is Deandra Douglas, former wife of actor Michael Douglas. She purchased two Namba outfits. Also at the opening were two other "formers" -- Linda Jones, once married to Monkee Davy Jones, plus Terri Richard, former wife of crooner Eddie Fisher. Actress Susan Sullivan, currently in the sitcom "Dharma and Greg" also was at the opening to see Namba's outfits. If Namba could get Jana "Dharma" Elfman herself into one of her designs, she'd have it made ...
