Promoting the unsung Goodwill

August A. Yee says there are aspects of Goodwill Industries that are not well known by the public.

"We are known for our stores but behind that there are a host of activities we do," Yee said. "We have auctions for items that people no longer need. These auction items include automobiles, appliances, and furniture."

He replaces Kevin Payne who relocated to the mainland. Yee has been on the Goodwill Industries board for more than 20 years, and worked with the finance and operations functions. He also is a director for the YMCA of Honolulu and the Boys and Girls Club of Honolulu. The YMCA recently honored him with its USA Heritage Award for 26 years of service.

Goodwill provides training and job placement for those with disabilities and barriers to employment. Last year, it placed more than 125 people into jobs.
