Jenkins earns
Pac West honors

University of Hawaii at Hilo forward Merriel Jenkins, has been selected the Pacific West Conference basketball Player of the Week.

Competing against three NCAA Division I opponents -- Stanford, Montana and Oklahoma -- in the City Bank/Aloha Airlines Big Island Invitational last week, Jenkins had tournament highs of 23.7 points, eight rebounds and seven blocked shots per game.

UH BASKETBALL TIME CHANGES: Time changes on the University of Hawaii basketball schedule for the Dec. 13-14 Zippy's Tournament at the Special Events Arena: Arkansas State plays Centenary at 4:30 p.m. and Hawaii meets Long Island University at 7:07 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13. On Sunday, Dec. 14, Long Island plays in the 4:30 p.m. game and Hawaii plays at 7:07 p.m.

JACOY, DUPONT TOP GOLF FIELD: Kelly Jacoy shot his second 78 yesterday to take a seven-stroke lead in the championship flight of the 33rd annual Mauna Kea Invitational golf tournament on the Big Island.

The 54-hole men's competition winds up today.

Pam duPont won the 36-hole women's event yesterday with a low gross of 165.

MAKAKILO BASEBALL CAMP: The Kama'aina Kids Holiday Baseball Camp, conducted in conjunction with Hawaii Winter Baseball by former major league infielder Lenn Sakata, Anaheim Angels pitching coach Howie Gershberg and former University of Hawaii stars Paul Ah Yat, Matt Apana and Greg Oniate, will be held Dec. 12-14 at Pointer Field and Camp Timberline in Makakilo.

The camp is open to youths ages 9-18. Cost is $125 and includes all meals and camp activities. Enrollment is limited to the first 100 applicants.

BOX CAR RACING: The American Box Car Racing International organization will hold races Saturday in the front parking lot at Tripler Army Medical Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

FUN RUN/WALK: The Kamehameha Schools Bishop Estate ohana will hold its annual fun run/walk on Feb. 7, 1998 to benefit the Aloha United Way.

A 10K (6.2-mile) run and a 2-mile keiki run/walk begin in Kapiolani Park at 7 and 8 a.m., respectively. Entry fee is $18 if postmarked by Jan. 31, 1998. Race-day registration is $22.
