Resort developers take on the economy

Donald Young wants isle resort developers to join the fight to revitalize Hawaii's economy.

"Members of the HRDC (Hawaii Resort Developers Conference) have an investment of over $10 billion in Hawaii resorts and provide employment for more than 20,000 people," Young said.

"As major stakeholders in Hawaii's visitor industry, we look forward to contributing to the efforts to revitalize Hawaii's economy while continuing our goal to encourage and support planned resort development in Hawaii."

Young is president and CEO of Kapalua Land Co., the development and operating company for the Kapalua Resort on Maui. He worked for Ford Motor Co. and Bank of America before coming to Hawaii in 1978 to join Maui Pineapple Co. as budget director.

He transferred to Kapalua Land in 1981 and has been president for three years.
