CONTESTS

"Frogs are Fun": Honolulu Botanical Gardens is looking for three-dimensional frogs. Only one entry per person is allowed. Entries will be separated into the following age categories: 6 and under; 7-11; 12-17; 18-54; and 55 and over. Prizes will be awarded. For a complete list of rules, call 233-7323. "Junior Zookeeper": Children 5-11 can see what it's like to be a zoo keeper. Classes meet 1-4 p.m. every Saturday, Dec. 6-27 at Honolulu Zoo. Cost: $75 for all four classes. Information: 971-7195.

"Mariner Holokai": The Girl Scout Council of Hawaii presents a new program for girls in grades 6-12 who want to learn "mariner and seafarer-related skills while working as a team and sharing cultures." The classes will cover boating safety, knot tying, navigation, kayaking and outrigger canoe paddling. All participants must have basic swimming and first-aid skills.

Other Girl Scout programs offered include the Daisy program for kindergarteners-first grade; Brownie for grades 1-3; Junior for grades 3-6; Cadette for grades 6-9; and Senior for grades 9-12. Information: 595-8400.

Storytime at Borders, Waikele: Children's literature come alive as experienced readers share picture books, 10:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Saturday. For information, call 676-6699.

Tropical plant nature walk: 10 a.m. Saturdays and 1 p.m. Sundays at Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden. Free. Bring walking shoes, insect repellent and rain gear. Reserve at 233-7323.

Train rides: Enjoy a 90-minute ride through Ewa 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Sundays with the Hawaiian Railway Society, 91-1001 Renton Road. Passengers should arrive a half hour before departure time. Costs $8 general, $5 seniors and children. Call 681-5461 for reservations.
