Don't let his quiet demeanor fool you - Alexander Baltazar-Quizon has a whole lot of action going on. Working for fellow students
At just 11, the Maili Elementary School sixth-grader is president of his class and vice president of his school.
He is also one of two student voting members of Maili's School/Community-Based Management Council.
While quite a load for any student, the son of Alexis Quizon said his busy schedule is not a problem. "I like being on the student council. It's really fun."
He added that knowing his vote as an SCBM member is taken seriously is exhilarating.
"I make a difference," he said.
Whether Maili retains its four-day school week or reverts to a five-day week is the question facing its SCBM Council. Baltazar-Quizon and the other student member, Jonathan Tagovailoa, polled students of each grade level and tallied their findings. The four-day school week won by a landslide.
He attributed the win to a teacher's view that children tend to favor larger numbers over smaller ones.
Regardless, Baltazar-Quizon is happy to represent his peers in any capacity, and his teacher, Julie Herodias, expressed confidence in his leadership abilities.
"He's very willing to help others . . . very well respected by his peers," she said. "I wish I had twenty-something of him."
