Musashimaru improves to 9-1, stays in three-way tie for lead

FUKUOKA, Japan - Musashimaru (Fiamalu Penitani from Hawaii) narrowly escaped with his ninth victory today and shared the lead with two other once-beaten wrestlers with five days left in the 15-day Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament.

Tied at 9-1 with Musashimaru were fellow ozeki (champion) Takanonami and yokozuna (grand champion) Takanohana.

Kaio, his back to the rim, twisted around to menace Musashimaru but then slipped before he could force out the ozeki.

Takanohana forced out Chiyotaikai and Takanonami shoved out Tochinowaka.

Terao defeated Yamato (George Kalima from Hawaii), who is 4-6, and Kyokutenho downed Konishiki (Salevaa Atisanoe from Hawaii), 5-5.
