The masters team from the Waikiki Surf Club were wearing their Sunday best, paddling in aloha shirts during the KingKalakaua Regatta.



Messer first in Kalakaua Regatta

Josephine Messer was the overall winner at the Altres King Kalakaua Regatta yesterday, completing her five-kilometer course from Magic island to the Aloha Tower in one hour, 11 minutes, 45 seconds.

Messer entered in the 5-Kpaddleboard category.

The first man to finish was Chris Kincaid, who won the masters division of the one-person outrigger canoe race.

Other divisions included six-person canoes, sailing canoes and surf skis.

GIRLSVOLLEYBALL:The Hawaii HighSchool Athletic Association girls state volleyball tournament will be played Thursday through Saturday in Hilo.

Kamehameha, Pearl City, Konawaena and Maui are the top seeds for pool play.

SASADAUPBYFOUR:Brian Sasada led by four strokes after the second round of the Callaway HawaiiState Open yesterday at the Mauna Kea Golf Course on the Big Island.

Sasada shot a 68 to put him at 139. First-round leader Casey Nakama shot a 75 yesterday and was at 143. Ron Castillo Jr., Philip Chun and Johnny Rieger were at 144.

Camie Hoshino leads the women's division after her 69 gave her a seven-stroke lead, at 144.

Dean Prince led the senior division, with a nine-stroke lead, at 143.
