Build community through cohousing
You won't find "cohousing" in the dictionary, at least not yet, but an informational meeting on the subject at 7 p.m. tomorrow at Pali Unitarian Church will help answer questions.Cohousing Hawaii is a new organization seeking to establish a communal method of housing in Hawaii. The idea, with roots in European village life last century, was recently revamped in Denmark and has been successfully practiced on the mainland.
It's essentially a kind of extended family of people who jointly buy property and develop single-family homes around a "common house" available for pot lucks, entertainment, child care, overnight guests and laundry. Cohousing Hawaii is seeking to build a similar community in Heeia.
