HAWAII TENNIS TEAM PLACES THIRD: Rainbow Financial of Oahu took third place in the United States Tennis Association National 3.5 Senior Championships at Altamonte Springs, Fla., last weekend with a 2-1 victory over Pacific Northwest representative Salem Tennis Swim.
Members of the Hawaii team were captain Walter Wong, Morris Lai, Myo New, Cary Ono, Fred Okumura, Norman Tyau, Gordon Chun, Roy Higa, Derrick Taves, Worldster Lee, Francis Wong and Gerhard Frolich.
The Washington, N.C., Racquet Club beat Tulsa, Okla., 2-1, for the national title.
BLANTON TO GO FOR PERFECT TEN: Hawaii's Chet "The Jet" Blanton will compete in the fourth annual World Championship Decatriathlon -- at 10 times the distance of the Kona Ironman, it's the longest multisport event in the world -- beginning Nov. 15 in Monterrey, Mexico.
Also known as the "Perfect Ten," the Decatriathlon consists of a 24-mile swim, a 1,120-mile bike ride and a 262-mile run, to be completed in 14 days.
The 39-year-old Blanton is one of two Americans in an elite field of 14 from around the world.
BENEFIT WALK: The "Walk to Cure Diabetes," hosted by the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation-Hawaii Chapter, will be held Saturday, Nov. 22, at Kapiolani Park.
Up to 2,000 people are expected to participate in the 212-mile walk, to begin at 8 a.m.
Registration forms are available at local running stores or from the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation-Hawaii Chapter by calling 988-1000. Individuals and teams are invited. Registration is an hour before the start of the walk.
After the walk, The Krush and "Legends in Concert" will provide entertainment, and refreshments will be served to participants in the walk.
VULCANS' BASKETBALL SCRIMMAGE: The third annual University of Hawaii at Hilo Red, White and Blue basketball scrimmage has been rescheduled for 7:15 Friday, Nov. 14 at the UHH gymnasium.
The scrimmage originally had been set for this Sunday.
BODYBOARD SERIES: The Extreme Bodyboard Series, three professional bodyboarding contests, have been scheduled for Waimea, Pipeline and Velzyland next year.
The men's Bodyboarding Invitational will be Jan. 14-28 at Waimea.
The World Championship of Women's Bodyboarding will be Jan. 28 through Feb. 10 at Pipeline.
The Women's Bodyboard contest will be held Feb. 11-15 at Velzyland.
