Tias younger sis to tie knot
SORRY guys, but another isle beauty is making plans to head down that nuptial aisle. Audra Lee Janairo, who bears a striking resemblance to her better known sister, actress Tia Carrere, has done some modeling herself, but is now into hotel restaurant management. When her Aussie boyfriend, also in the hotel business, popped the question recently, she responded in the affirmative. Audra, two years junior to Tia (born Althea), is if anything even more attractive, but after exploring modeling and showbiz possibilities in L.A., elected to return home. As for Tia, she's happily married and her acting career continues to flourish -- she's currently working on a film called "Scar City" with Stephen Baldwin ...
HEREWITH the Fodor Travel Guide: This would be violin virtuoso Eugene Fodor, who travels the world soloing with symphonies, but most enjoys his digs in the Big Island Upcountry when the tours are completed. He performsSunday and Tuesday at the Blaisdell Concert Hall with maestro Samuel Wong conducting. He's filling in for Mexican conductor Enrique Diemecke, who had to cancel due to the deteriorating health of a loved one. Fodor, who's been in New Zealand, says he plans to spend Christmas on the slopes of Mauna Kea "with the apple of my eye." That would be his wife? No, she's in New Zealand, though she's welcome to join him if she likes. He was referring to his 2-year-old Arabian horse, the latest in a series he's raised ...
Selleck shooting again
NO, "Magnum, P.I." isn't being revived, but star Tom Selleck has set up a new shooting schedule here. This weekend he'll be celebrity host at the grand opening of the Lanai Pine Sporting Clays. The sharpshooting Selleck will be helping raise funds for Duck's Unlimited, a national organization devoted to preserving the wetlands of North America. The actor, fresh from his role in the hit film "In and Out," steps up to the shooting station tomorrow -- winners can pick off $25,000 in cash and prizes ...THERE are Bow fans all over -- everywhere except Aloha Stadium apparently. Seattle's radio station KONG carries Rainbow football games, much to the delight of fans like Ron Gomes, currently a University of Washington law student. He e-mails that "right now it's kind of painful," but "we still love Da Bows." By the way, KONG is a sister station of KING -- that's right, KING/KONG. I'm not kidding ...
CHEF Alan Wong no sooner returned from the James Beard House in New York than he took off for L.A. and next week's opening of the Maui Beach Cafe in Westwood . Chef Wong will cook alongside chef Mako Segawa-Gonzales, formerly with Roy's Restaurant on Maui. He's introducing "Maui Beach Cuisine" at the eatery, designed by Lifescapes, the company that also did the Mirage, Bellagio and Treasure Island hotels in Las Vegas. One feature is a surfer riding a 40-foot fiber optic "wave" across the walls ...
Last call
THERE'LL be a memorial service Saturday at 6 p.m. at Punahou's Thurston Chapel for long-time Hawaii business writer Bill Wood. His sons and daughters are flying in from Cairo, Hong Kong and Seattle. Friends are welcome to attend -- no flowers ... And the town is still in shock over the tragic suicide of one-time millionaire playboy Alfred Goldman in Oklahoma City. Life, as full as it seemed, just wasn't enough. I'm reminded of the saying on the card handed me at Palomino after dinner recently: "Every day is a gift; that's why we call it the present." ...
