Alexio to fight
Gibson for title

Dennis Alexio will defend his World IKF Kickboxing championship against United States and North American heavyweight king Jeff Gibson on Nov. 21 at the Blaisdell Arena.

Alexio has a 65-1 record with 60 knockouts, including 30 straight since 1989. It will be his first bout since May 31, when he knocked out Barrington Patterson in the sixth round at the Blaisdell.

Gibson, a former U.S. Marine who fights out of San Diego, holds a sixth-degree black belt in tae kwon do. He's a five-time national karate champion and two-time Golden Gloves champ. His kickboxing record is 42-2, with 31 KOs.

Tickets for the fight go on sale tomorrow at the Blaisdell box office and all Connection outlets.

WAHINE BOOTED BY USF: The University of San Francisco women's soccer team spotted Hawaii an early goal before countering with four first-half scores on the way to a 5-1 victory over the Wahine last night in San Francisco.

Megan Lytle tallied for the Wahine on assists by Poliala Paressa and Dawn Dasher with the game just over seven minutes old. But the lead was short-lived and the Lady Dons went on to improve their record to 10-6 and drop Hawaii to 6-12-1 with one game to play, against Hawaii Pacific Sunday.

HAWAII PACIFIC'S YEMAL CITED: Diego Yemal, a freshman midfielder on the Hawaii Pacific University men's soccer team, was one of six nominees for NAIA national player of the week honors.

Yemal scored two goals in the Sea Warriors' 2-1 overtime victory over Brigham Young-Hawaii last Saturday.

David Flavius of Ohio Dominican College was named national player of the week.

VULCANS WIN: The University of Hawaii at Hilo struggled for three games before piling up a 13-1 lead in Game 4 and finishing off Montana State-Billings, 15-11, 14-16, 15-11, 15-4, in a Pacific West Conference women's volleyball match at Hilo.

MINI GOLF SPECIAL: The Putt-Putt Mini Golf Tourney, a fund-raising event for youth programs and community service projects sponsored in East Honolulu by the Kaimuki Y's Men Club, will be played Nov. 15-16 at the Jungle River Mini Golf Village near Pearlridge Shopping Center.

Prizes will be awarded in four age divisions each day. A grand prize of airfare for two to Las Vegas, courtesy of Hawaiian Airlines, will go to the first person scoring a hole-in-one on the 14th hole.

Players can compete as individuals or in teams of four on either day of the event. The early-entry cost of $11 per person or $40 per team covers a round of golf and a free hot dog and drink. The cost of entries submitted after Nov. 8 will increase to $14 per person and $48 per team.

100-HOLE CHALLENGE: The Arthritis Foundation 100 Hole Challenge is scheduled for Nov. 28 at the Bay View Golf Park.

Each golfer's goal is to complete 100 holes in one day and raise a minimum of $1,000 in pledges to support the program and services of the Arthritis Foundation.

All competitors receive a 100 Hole Gift Pack that includes two dozen golf balls, a certificate commemorating their free achievement, an event golf shirt and other gifts.
