What ever happened to George Mills, elected a state senator in 1970 and a sometime candidate in other elections? Mills lost races but
awarded for serviceDr. George H. Mills, a Republican state senator from 1970 to 1974, died Feb. 11, 1992.
A leader in the Hawaiian and medical communities, he was 70.
In 1966, Mills was a candidate for lieutenant governor with Republican gubernatorial candidate Randolph Crossley.
They lost to the Burns-Gill ticket by 4,720 votes. Mills also made an unsuccessful run for the state Senate in 1968.
He was vice chairman of the Republican Party of Hawaii from 1968 to 1970 and head of the state GOP convention in 1968. The state House and Senate adjourned the day he died with a moment of silence in his memory.
A recipient of numerous community service awards, Mills also was associated with the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine, National Council on Crime and Delinquency, Hawaii Visitors Bureau, National Academy of Science, American Cancer Society and several state advisory commissions.
Born at Pepeekeo on the Big Island, he graduated from Kamehameha Schools, Colorado College and the medical school of Boston University.
