Benefits for HIFF Ohana

Don't find yourself ticket-less for the Hawaii International Film Festival that runs Nov. 7 through 21 with 100 films being shown on 26 screens across six islands.

The only statewide film festival in the United States last year filled all 65,000 seats so if you want to get a jump on ticket sales, consider joining the HIFF Ohana.

For the first time in its 17-year history, the festival will charge an admission fee of $6, discounted to $5 each for HIFF Ohana members.

For a $50 membership fee, members receive six tickets -- a $36 value -- and two tickets to other films -- a $12 value -- during the year.

In addition, all Ohana members get a program guide; first crack at film festival tickets; admission to the welcoming party; a subscription to the newsletter; and discounts on HIFF merchandise.

An unprecedented number of world-class filmmakers and actors will travel to Hawaii to represent their films this year. Among them are director Ang Lee, who will introduce his new film "The Ice Storm," starring Sigourney Weaver and Kevin Kline; John Seale, who won the Academy Award in cinematography for "The English Patient"; Jason Priestly of "Beverly Hills 90210"; and John Ritter, co-star of "Sling Blade."

For membership information, go to the HIFF headquarters and box office on the second floor of Ward Warehouse. Office hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m, Monday through Frida. Or call 528-HIFF (528-4433) for more information.
