


TUCSON, Ariz. -- A men's team from Waipahu just missed gaining the championship match and came in third yesterday in the USTA League Tennis 3.0 National Championships by beating Broken Arrow, Okla., 4-1. Waipahu men finish
third at USTA NationalsEarlier, Buena Vista, Ga., edged Waipahu, 3-2, in the semifinals.
Team members are Arnold Aradanas, Evaristo Constantino, Antonio Daguio, Loreto Domingo, Nestor Felipe, Fidel Hufana, Felipe Francisco, Sergio Ilagan, Lito Macadangdang, Al Orion, Arselmo Tabonda and Robert Tahilan.
The Honolulu women's team finished with a 0-3 record.
DID NOT QUALIFY FOR FINALS: At Palm Spring, Calif., the men's and women's teams from Oahu in the USTA League Tennis 4.0 National Championships both finished pool-play with a 2-1 record and failed to qualify for the semifinal-round Saturday.
FSU EDGES WAHINE: At Fresno, Calif., a goal at the 73 minute, 43 second mark was all the Fresno State Bulldogs (11-7-0 overall, 3-2-0 conference) needed to defeated the University of Hawaii, 1-0, in a Western Athletic conference Pacific Division women's soccer match yesterday.
The Wahine (6-11-1, 0-5-0) have lost six consecutive matches. UH ends the road trip with a match at the University of San Francisco tomorrow.
The final match of the season is Sunday against Hawaii Pacific University at 7 p.m. at Ala Wai Field.
XTERRA CHAMPION: At Wailea, Maui, Mike Pigg, 33, of Acrata, Calif., won the EXTERRA Championship yesterday with a time of two hours, 28 minutes, 48 seconds.
Pigg, a world-class triathlete, completed the 1-5-kilometer ocean swim in 18:48, the 30-kilometer mountain bike ride in 1:31:24 and the 11-kilometer cross-country run in 38:36.
Ned Overend, Durango, Colo., was second in 2:32:12. Jimmy Riccitello, Tucson, Ariz, took third in 2:34:49.
Jeff Sanders of Lahaina was the first Hawaii finisher in 2:44:04 (10th place). Brent Imonen of Kailua was 14th in 2:46:40.
In the women's race, Cameron Randolph finished first in 3:04:25, edging Lesley Tomlinson (3:04:31). Sue Latshau was third in 3:11:58.
WEEKEND DRAG RACING: Open street racing for all cars and bikes is scheduled for Friday night at Hawaii Raceway Park with more open street racing and junior dragster qualifying on tap Saturday.

KING KALAKAUA REGATTA: The third annual Altres King Kalakaua Regatta is Nov. 16, starting at Magic Island and ending at Aloha Tower.
There will be seven events: sailing canoe 15-K; six-person paddling canoe 15-K; one-person outrigger canoe 10-K; paddleboard 10-K and 5-K, and surfski 15-K and 10-K.

SKATING SKILLS: The Wheel Thing will offer a series of inline skating programs designed to teach beginners, as well as advanced skaters.
