‘Tap Dogs’ six
are remarkable

THE six hotshots in "Tap Dogs" at the Hawaii Theatre perform incredible tap dancing routines. And these tireless young men do it in work boots, not little tap dance shoes. Their Swiss-watch-like precision is remarkable. The staging and props are also quite innovative. You don't have to be a tap dancer to be impressed with what these guys come up with. The amplification for the drummer and the keyboarder-guitarist can be turned down a notch ...

BEAUTY reigned at an Outrigger Canoe Club table last Sunday night as a group of past and present beauty queens, actresses and models came to toast one of their own, Nalani Bickson, on her birthday. Nalani is development director at St. Louis School. Nalani's mom, former UH Kapalapala beauty queen Joan Castroverde Bickson, was hostess. Nalani's calabash aunt, ex-Rep. Joan revealed she played a dead body in "Hell's Half Acre." She and Jackie were also in "Birds of Paradise."Nalani's brother Michael and his wife Gianna and Girl Scout chief Joyce Richards filled out the party. In her daughter's card, Joan wrote: "Years ago I got lucky, I had you." Awwww ...

THE French Festival benefit at the Hilton's Tapa Ballroom raised $10,000 for the Honolulu Youth Symphony last Saturday. The symphony was impressive under the direction of Henry Miyamura. Actor Cary Tagawa, who starred in "Rising Son," sat with Gov. Ben and Vicky Cayetano, along with Chanel's Joyce Okano Reed, a festival force. Others important in the fest's success were Louis Vuitton's Gary Hahn, Hermes' Kathy Sakamoto, Duty Free's Patti Nakagawa, Halekulani's Dean Fujitani, Cartier's Kellyn Kubo and coordinator Dean Christopher. Reed said Cayetano will be honorary chair of next year's festival. Cayetano said the festival shows how businesses can work together to give the economy a shot in the arm.
