out five more weeksNaeole, the former Colorado and St. Louis School star from Hawaii, missed the Saints' season opener with a knee injury. He played in the next three games against San Diego, San Francisco, and the Giants on Sept. 28 before injuring his ankle in that game.
Naeole did not play last Sunday against Chicago and sought a second opinion about whether surgery might be required.
Had Naeole required surgery, Coach Mike Ditka said he probably would have missed the rest of the season.
McGUIRE WAIVED: The Indianapolis Colts re-signed veteran defensive back David Tate yesterday and waived former St. Louis School and BYU star Kaipo Mc-Guire.
Tate started 34 of 42 games with the Colts after he was acquired as a free agent in 1994.
He started the first 10 games at safety last year but missed the final six games because of a neck injury and was waived in June.
McGuire, a free-agent wide receiver, played briefly in three games with the Colts but did not have any receptions.
Pedro "Pete" Velasco Jr., the captain of the first U.S. men's volleyball team to compete in the Olympics, will be inducted into the Volleyball Hall of Fame during Oct. 24-25 ceremonies in Holyoke, Mass. Velasco named to
Volleyball Hall of FameVelasco captained the U.S. team at the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo and was a member of the U.S. team at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City.
He is a 10-time USVBA All-American, the MVP of the 1965 USVBA Nationals and was named a USVBA All-Time Great in 1970.
The former men's volleyball coach at Hawaii Pacific is one of three people to be inducted this year. Joining Velasco are UCLA women's volleyball coach Andy Banachowski, the all-time winningest women's college coach, and Al Monaco Jr., the first executive director of the USVBA.
Velasco is the third inductee from Hawaii. Other enshrinees are Jon Stanley and the late Tommy Haine.
Velasco led Church College of Hawaii (now BYU-Hawaii) to the 1971 NAIA national men's volleyball title. He was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1980.
EAT UP: There will be a fund-raising carbo-loading party for next week's Ironman Triathlon Sunday at Magic Island from noon to 5 p.m.
The party is to raise money for Honolulu resident Chet "The Jet" Blanton, who will attempt a Deca-Ironman next month in Monterrey, Mexico.
The all-you-can-eat spaghetti meal costs $10, Mannatech's Ohana Makers is sponsoring the event.
Blanton has completed seven triathlons this year, and said 17 in one calendar year may be a world's record.

MOUNTAINMAN TRIATHLON: Team Boca, a network of triathletes in Hawaii, is putting on the third annual Pflueger Honda MountainMan Triathlon Nov. 16 at Kualoa Ranch, starting at 8 a.m.
The final race of the Oahu Triathlon Series consists of a 500-meter swim, a 40-kilometer mountain bike ride and a 5-kilometer trail run.
The entry fees are $50 per individual or $80 per team. Entries must be postmarked by Nov. 8.
