Rebels in three gamesThe cross-over match between the two Western Athletic Conference opponents did not count in the standings. It did go a long ways, however, toward defining the future of the two-year-old UNLV program and the storied tradition of Hawaii.
"We're still trying to figure out what we can and can't do," said UNLV coach Deitre Collins after the 76-minute loss at the Special Events Arena. "I didn't think they (the Wahine) were very strong but maybe it was because it was us. It could be they weren't expecting UNLV to do anything and didn't get fired up to play us.

"San Diego State will be much tougher than UNLV and we need to be tougher and focused," said Hawaii coach Dave Shoji.
