Wakefield plays
a perfect Will

SCOTT WAKEFIELD is a perfect Will Rogers and Stefanie Smart stands out as his wife, Betty Blake, in Diamond Head Theatre's "Will Rogers Follies." And every time Tracey Villiger popped on stage she simply cracked me up with her remarks and antics. She portrayed Ziegfeld's Favorite, a big, sexy, dumb blonde. The kids will enjoy this musical, too, as Will performs rope tricks and there is a tiny performing dog that's a whiz. What's more, the four Rogers kids are given time in the spotlight. The costuming and choreography are well done. The precision in the "Favorite Son" number was excellent ...

TADAO Sato turned 100 yesterday and was proud to receive signed congratulatory messages from President Bill and Hillary Clinton and Sen. Daniel Inouye. Sato celebrated with family and friends. He has six children: Sons Hank, Mikio and Tadashi Sato, the well-known artist, and daughters Evelyn Nouchi, Fumiko Sugai and Keiko Sato. The Sato children attended Lahainaluna on Maui. Hank said he and his brothers use hearing aids but his dad still doesn't need one ...

MANY isle shops, restaurants and hotels will take part in the French Festival Oct. 4-12. Among the events: The Iona Pear dancers, wearing white body suits, will paint each other from head to toe to dance at Chanel Ala Moana next Saturday 11:30 a.m. The art of leather stitching will be demonstrated at Hermes. Patrick Louis Vuitton, great-grandson of store founder Louis Vuitton, will be at the Waikiki store. A special menu will be presented by Chef Michel Cliche of Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and La Mer Chef Yves Garnier Oct. 3-12 in La Mer at the Halekulani. On Oct. 9-10 "A Taste of Alsace" will be offered in the Bali at the Hilton. Chef Andre Soltner, who owned Lutece in New York, and Bali Chef Jean Luc Voegele team up for this. Le Grand Gala Oct. 11 in the Hilton's Coral Ballroom offers dinner, Moet & Chandon champagne, the Hawaii Youth Symphony, a silent auction and prizes. Tres bien! ...
