Football Fever is worth
plenty plate lunches

Star-Bulletin

While he was waiting to have his photo taken yesterday at the Star-Bulletin, Football Fever winner Gordon Hunter figured out that his $500 prize would be worth "about three and a half months of plate lunches."

"At $5 a lunch, that comes out to 100 lunches," he said with a laugh.

Hunter predicted correctly on all seven games listed on last week's abbreviated ballot. In order to qualify for the weekly prize, entrants must score equal to or better than the top celebrity panelist -- in this case, 6-1.

Hunter, 48, who once played defensive line for Farrington High's varsity, said he's "semi-retired" and is now a "professional contestant."

"I had a really strong premonition that I would win something yesterday," he said. "I even told my godparents that on the phone."

There were 17,121 entries last week. All contestants are eligible for the Grand Prize of $5,000 and the First Prize of a week's trip for two to the Hula Bowl Maui.
