Sprint customers get first dibs
By Star-Bulletin StaffIt's official because the governor says so. Tickets for the Rolling Stone concert at Aloha Stadium Jan. 23 will go on sale Tuesday, Sept. 30, for $65, $45, and $35, Gov. Ben Cayetano will announce today.
But only residential and business customers of Sprint, the corporate sponsor of the Stones' tour, can buy the tickets for the first 10 days. Remaining tickets go on sale to the general public at 9 a.m. Oct. 10.
Sprint generally gets an allotment of about 15,000 tickets for each concert before they go on sale to the public. Sprint customers can order the Aloha Stadium tickets by phone beginning 6 a.m. Tuesday by calling 1-888-FALL-TOUR.
Existing Sprint customers can purchase up to four tickets each, while the company's business subscribers can have up to five employees purchase four tickets each.
Ticket sales to the public will take place at Aloha Stadium and all Connection outlets.
There will be no second concert even if the Jan. 23 event sells out as expected, promoter Tom Moffatt said earlier.
While opening acts on the mainland and Canada dates will include Foo Fighters, Dave Matthews Band, Blues Traveler, Sheryl Crow or the Smashing Pumpkins, the opening act at Aloha Stadium has not yet been determined.
The Stones, who began their 30-plus city "Bridges to Babylon" tour on Tuesday in Chicago, will bring their full tour regalia to Honolulu, including giant curtains, inflatable women, a giant video screen, strobe lights, costume changes, fireworks, backup singers and a horn section, new material and lots of oldies. A $3 million sound system is being used on the tour.
Of the seats that have gone on sale for other Stones' dates throughout the country, priced at up to $60 each, 92 percent have already been snapped up, sources said.
