What ever happened to Francis Keala, former Honolulu police chief? Wasn't he chief during the filming of the original "Hawaii Five-0"? Keala stays active
with scouts, musicKeala, who stepped down as police chief on April 1, 1983, remains active. Last year, he was chairman of the crime-prevention campaign of the Aloha Council of the Boy Scouts of America and was elected a vice president of the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame.
"Hawaii Five-0" was big during Keala's tenure as police chief. The television show first aired Sept. 26, 1968, the year before Keala became police chief, on Dec. 24, 1969. The last original episode of "Hawaii Five-0" aired May 2, 1980.
After retiring as police chief, Keala became director of health, safety and security with Hawaiian Telephone Co. He retired from that position in December 1993.
