Hawaii Kai post office
improvements delayed

The Hawaii Kai post office said they would have gooseneck mailboxes on their property by this summer, so that we didn't have to get out of our cars to mail our letters. Well, summer's gone and we still don't have them. What's happening?

It was literally back to the drawing boards and it's still not certain when the "snorkel" mailboxes and the reconfiguration of the parking lot at that post office will take place.

"There were some delays because several initial drawings or plans ended up costing too much," said Postal Service spokeswoman Felice Broglio. "They were shot down so they had to go back to the drawing board. But they have come up with another, do-able plan for restriping the parking lot and also for the snorkel box."

The Postal Service is about seek bids again, "and hopefully, they'll come in at the right amount," Broglio said. If construction cannot be done before the Christmas season, it will be postponed til after the holidays, "so as not to cause more problems," she said.
