A second hat at Bank of Honolulu

Michael H. Higa takes over the job of chief financial officer at Bank of Honolulu and also handles operations and regulatory reporting.

"That structure is a little unusual for banking," Higa said. "I'm honored to be chosen for this job."

Higa reports directly to Takao Sata, vice chairman and chief executive officer.

Higa's background comes in accounting, starting out of college with Coopers & Lybrand where he was an auditor from 1975-79 and worked on banks. Higa, a certified public accountant, had his own accounting practice for 15 years and at the same time served as office manager for attorney Michael F. McCarthy.

He joined Bank of Honolulu in February as vice president/controller.

Higa earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Hawaii in 1975.
