TOKYO -- Musashimaru, or Fiamalu Penitani from Hawaii, scored his ninth victory against one defeat today and remained in a three-way tie for first place with grand champion Takanohana and Wakanohana in the 15-day Autumn Grand Sumo tournament. Musashimaru (9-1) wins,
Akebono downs KonishikiGrand champion Akebono, or Chad Rowan from Hawaii, stayed one victory behind the three leaders at 8-2.
Musashimaru fought off Tosanoumi's arm-throw attempts and sent him out of the ring.
Takanohana, seeking his 18th tournament victory, grabbed Kotonowaka's belt and bulldozed him out. Wakanohana stood firm under Kotoinazuma's hand thrusts and twisted him down.
Akebono charged fellow Hawaii wrestler Konishiki, or Salevaa Atisanoe, with a hand thrust to the face and drove him out. Konishiki is 0-6, with four absences due to inflammation in both feet and his left calf.
In the juryo division, Yamato, or George Kalima from Hawaii, suffered his second defeat against eight victories when he was forced out by Oginohana.
