Different boats for different folks

Bruce DeYoung offers two different kinds of rides on Royal Hawaiian Cruises' Maui vessels, the Navatek II and the Maui Nui Explorer.

Both vessels offer snorkel cruises to Lanai, but the similarities stop there.

"Navatek is generally used more by the high-end market, those staying at Wailea and the Four Seasons (hotel), who want a smooth ride," DeYoung said. "The Maui Nui is for the more adventurous. It has a faster ride, close to the dolphins."

DeYoung supervises 50 employees at the Lahaina office. He previously worked as a trust officer for Hawaiian Trust Co. in Honolulu. His career also has included restaurant management and residential real estate sales.

He has a bachelor's degree in environmental studies and physical geography from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
