


Andrew Harris won the Mid-Pacific Road Runners 25-kilometer state championship yesterday at Scho-field Barracks in a time of one hour, 31 minutes and four seconds. Harris claims 25K crown
Michael Georgi was runner-up with a time of 1:33:15 and Chris Crawford finished third in 1:34:40.
Connie Comiso-Fanelli captured the women's division, finishing in 1:55:56. Bonnie Roney took second place in 1:59:10 and Kathy Barcia was third in 2:01:46.
McCLEAN TOPS QUALIFYING: The Aloha Section PGA Match Play Championship held its qualifying round at the Wailea Gold Course yesterday, with 32 players moving on to today's match-play format.
Brendan Moynahan, the defending champion, was exempted from qualifying and is seeded number one.
Other notables qualifying yesterday were Dick McClean, who was the low qualifier, Greg Meyer, and Ron Kiaaina. The championship match is Wednesday.
KANG WINS KOREAN INVITATIONAL: David Kang captured the 47th Korean Invitational Golf Tournament with a three-stroke victory over Stewart Ahn yesterday at the Pali Municipal Course.
Kang, who played on the University of Hawaii golf team, shot a final-round 75 for a 36-hole total of 148. Ahn shot a par-72 for a 151 total.
Low-net winners: A-flight - Jin Doo Mun (137) in a four-way playoff; B-flight - Herbert Nada (133), C-flight - Ed Aoki (130), ,Seniors flight - Andrew Lee (127).
FRIENDS WINNERS: Scott Hayes and Mareike Ressing were the overall winners in the Friends of Kailua High School five-kilometer fun run and walk yesterday.
Hayes finished in a time of 18 minutes, four seconds while Ressing was right behind him in 18:09.
REGISTRATION EXTENDED: The deadline to sign up for the 1997 Kauai Open golf tournament has been extended to Sept. 22.
The Open will be held Oct. 3-5 on several Kauai courses.
Entry fees are $170 for professionals, $150 for championship flight and $100 for A, B and women's flights.

WOMEN'S PRO VOLLEYBALL: The final team event of the 1997 Evian Women's Pro Beach Volleyball Tour is scheduled for Sept. 26-28 at Nawiliwili Park near Kalapaki Beach in Lihue, Kauai.
There will be two pools with four teams each in Best of the Beach III during the opening day of play Sept. 26 starting at 10 a.m.
The top four-seeded teams join bracket play Sept 27, with the top-two pool teams with play again starting at 10 a.m.
The final day's action begins at 9 a.m. with semifinals at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Third place will be decided at 2 p.m. with the championship match set for 3 p.m.
TENNIS PLAYERS NEEDED: The Oahu Tennis League will begin its six-week fall season Oct. 6.
The league offers a flexible format where singles and doubles players coordinate each match according to their schedules at courts of their choosing.
