Yasuda receives
$1,000 award

Davin Yasuda is the first recipient of the Oahu Junior Golf Association/Takeo Okafuji Scholarship Fund award.

The 1997 graduate of Aiea High School was awarded $1,000.

He was presented the award at the season-ending banquet by Ruby Okafuji, the sister of the late Takeo Okafuji.

MIYASHIRO ELIMINATED: At Northfield, N.J., Marie Miyashiro of Honolulu lost, 7 and 6, to Robin Burke of Houston in the second round of the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship yesterday at the Atlantic City County Club course.

INLINE HOCKEY: The Hawaiian Tropical Storm will compete in the U.S. Hockey Inline Cup, Sept. 17-20 at Las Vegas.

Team members are Pat Lavielle, Steve Olsen, Kevin Morrison, Lars Burwall, Mark Sueanaga, Nate Matsuda, Chad Voeks, Thomas Johnston, Andrew Vith, Eric Hogge, Luke Nickelson, Yancey Hutchenson and Gregg Shui.

The team members are paying their own way to the tournament but are looking for a sponsor for their hockey shirts ($560) or the tournament entry fee ($500).

HUNTING & FISHING DAY: The 26th National Hunting & Fishing Day will be celebrated in Hawaii Sept. 27 and 28 at the Koko Head Shooting Complex.

There will be demonstrations, food, prizes and activities for the public. To participate in the activities, bring canned food for the Hawaii Food Bank or make a $1 donation for each activity coupon desired.

PINEAPPLE CUP TENNIS: Top junior tennis players from around the world will compete in the first Pineapple Cup International Junior Tennis Championships, Sept. 20-27 at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel on the Big Island.

The event, sanctioned by the United States Tennis Association, will have boys and girls draws in singles and doubles, and mixed doubles. Hawaii's top-ranked players in the boys and girls 18's will receive wild-card entries into the main draw.

UH BOXING REUNION: Members of the University of Hawaii boxing team will hold a 50th reunion Oct. 18, according to former Rainbow coach Herbert Minn.

Among those expected to attend are one-time NCAA boxing champions Cyril Okamoto, Seiji Naya and Roy Kuboyama. The reunion will be held at the Gorum Restaurant in the Chinese Cultural Center at 100 N. Beretania Street.

NATIONAL QUALIFIERS: A senior men's tennis team from Honolulu has reached the United States Tennis Association League 4.0 Senior National Championship set for Oct. 16-19 at Tucson, Ariz.

The team members are Dennis Tanaka, Nelson Ayers, Al Apo, Clifford Inn, Andy Huang, Craig Yamaguchi, Anthony LeBron, Charles Padilla, Dale Parham, Victor Mau, Dan Lum and Norm Lau.
