Missed putt ends up
Star-Bulltin staff
being worth 500 bucksLance Kaulukukui was just about to putt for birdie on a slight downhill green at Hawaii Country Club yesterday when he heard the high-pitched ring from his cellular telephone. The putt rolled wide.
"The phone went off just as I was about to stroke," said Kaulukukui, who didn't answer.
After finishing his round, he checked his cellular messages to find out who the heck ruined his putt.
"Turned out it was one of my employees telling me the Star-Bulletin had called," Kaulukukui said. He'd won $500 in the Football Fever Contest with his 10-0 score.
Kaulukukui, 25, owns Pearl Kai Sports Cards. In order to qualify for the random drawing to win the money, Kaulukukui needed a better score than that of the top Football Fever panelist, which was a mere 6-4.
Kaulukukui and last week's other 10,347 entrants are eligible for the Grand Prize of $5,000 and the First Prize of a trip for two to the Hooters Hula Bowl Maui.
