Hedy Liu went by in a wheelchair outside the University of Hawaii women's locker room, her head in her hands.

The Wahine basketball player was crushed emotionally after blowing out her right knee in a pick-up game in the gym.

She will have an MRI performed today, but it's likely she tore the anterior cruciate ligament and will be lost for the season.

"It's very tough on her because she missed most of the 1995-96 season with a torn ACL in her left knee," UH head coach Vince Goo said. "I feel badly for her because she worked so hard to get where she is today."

The redshirt sophomore forward from University High will miss a season of eligibility. She is the second player on the 1997-98 team to blow out both knees. Nani Cockett also had surgery performed on both knees -- one in high school during the state high school volleyball tournament and the other in college during the 1994-95 season.

"I won't have any ligaments left in either of my knees," a distraught Liu told trainers, as they left the training room.

In 25 games last year, Liu averaged 1.2 points and 1.3 rebounds.
