Michael P. Matsumoto takes over leadership at SSFM Engineers Inc. as the company embraces the computer revolution. In five years, he says, nearly all of the engineering work will be done electronically. Engineering a move
to computerization"We're looking for more technology and a firm-wide move to total computerization," Matsumoto said. "This allows us to do work overseas more efficiently using e-mail, file transfers and the Internet."
Matsumoto replaces Roy Shimabukuro, who had been company president since 1986 and now serves as a director for the 48-person consulting engineering firm.
Matsumoto has been with SSFM Engineers for 29 years.
He has been the president of many professional organizations. both locally and nationally. In January, he was named "Engineer of the Year" by the Hawaii Society of Professional Engineers. Matsumoto earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Hawaii and a master's from the University of Illinois.
