Condé Nast Traveler:
Maui no ka oi
By Russ Lynch
Star-BulletinMaui is the world's No. 1 travel destination, according to the readers of Conde Nast Traveler, an 824,000-circulation magazine. "We rated all kinds of travel services and destinations," Adrienne Hoban, the New York-based magazine's public relations manager, said today.
Surveys went to a random selection of readers of the magazine's March issue; 37,000 responded.
"They were asked to rate the 20 top foreign cities, the top 10 U.S. cities and and the 20 top islands," she said.
"Maui garnered the highest score -- higher than Sydney, the No. 1 foreign city, and higher than San Francisco, the No. 1 U.S. city," Hoban said.
Maui was also rated the No. 1 island to visit, over runner-up Bermuda, Hoban said. In the islands category, Kauai was third favorite, the Big Island rated seventh and Lanai ranked ninth.
In the best spa resort category, the Grand Wailea Resort, Hotel & Spa on Maui won top place, the magazine said.
Maui won more overall points throughout the categories than any other destination, Hoban said.
The survey results are detailed in the magazine's September issue, to hit the newsstands later this week.
