Hamm’s goal lifts UH
to first win in Wahine Festival

Freshman midfielder Jennifer Hamm scored on a direct free kick 10 minutes into overtime to give the University of Hawaii women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Cal State Sacramento in the Outrigger Hotels Wahine Festival at Ala Wai Field last night.

The Wahine are 1-1.

Freshman goalkeeper Demarre Sanchez made four saves to post the shutout.

In the first match, Auburn won its second festival match with a 3-2 victory over St. Mary's (Calif.).

The Festival concludes tonight at 7 when Auburn plays Hawaii.

JONES WINS AGAIN: Dawson Jones of Pupukea won the Chart House/Bud Light Paddle Board Race from Waimea Bay to Alii Beach Park in a time of 41 minutes, 59 seconds yesterday.

He has not lost a paddle board race on the North Shore in more than two years.

Charlie Walker of Sunset Beach was second in 42:47.

PHILLIPS TRIUMPHS: Leonard Phillips won the 10-mile H.U.R.T. Tantalus Trek yesterday with a time of one hour, 13 minutes and 31 seconds.

Lauren Susman finished first in the women's division with a time of 1:37:14.

HORIUCHI TOP QUALIFIER: Chad Horiuchi led all qualifiers with a pinfall of 5,650 entering today's final of the Bud Light Hawaii Match Game Bowling Championship at Aiea Bowl.

TAMIYA TOP PRO: At Mauna Kea, Hawaii, Troy Tamiya of Hilo led the professionals with a 5-under-par 139 at the conclusion of the third annual Hapuna Roundup Invitational Pro-Am golf tournament.

Joey Castillo of Kauai's Poipu Bay Resort, along with Elton Tanaka, Sherri Holi and Bob Aran, won the Pro-Am by four strokes with a team total 329.

Derek Patao of the Wilshire Country Club won low gross amateur honors with a 140. Kevin Miyama of Honolulu took low net honors with a 131.
