Shane returnsBOBBY SHANE returned home and checked into the Halekulani for a rest in the midst of a heavy tour schedule with his Kingston Trio. The trio is 40 years old. Shane, Punahou '52, is also visiting his brother, Bud Schoen, and aunt, Mary Schoen, while here. Hilo-born Shane's isle family goes back five generations. He was preparing to meet Jeff Apaka when I reached him by phone Thursday. In 1972, when we were young and drinking, Bobby and record company official Hector Venegas came up to my apartment for an interview. We consumed numerous beverages as Bobby, with guitar, sang song after song and told great stories. It was a fabulous afternoon that stretched into the evening...
THE Honolulu Symphony's "tuneup" last Saturday at the Shell for its Hollywood Bowl concert tomorrow had only one thing wrong with it: There wasn't enough Keali'i Reichel. Reichel, with his dancers beautifully costumed, really knows how to put on a show. Besides that wonderful voice, he is quite funny. He should knock 'em dead in Hollywood tomorrow. MARK NORFLEET, son of Barbie and Nat Norfleet, marries Jennifer Nicholson, daughter of actor Jack Nicholson and former actress Sandra Knight today in Los Angeles. Mark and Jennifer attended Punahou, with Jennifer graduating in '81.
WITH the Rev. Abraham Akaka's blessing, the Outback Steak House swung open its doors Monday evening and raised $10,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Association. Hugh Connerty, prez of Outback's International Division, tossed in $500, making it an even 10 grand and making JDF head Marv Silverman a happy camper. Roy Yamaguchi, Ed Wary, Shep Gordon and Bruce Uitto are partners in the local Outback. All attended the opening. Bruce Faber came from Dixie Grill to help. Outback comes to town

RAMSAY is celebrating 25 years in the art gallery biz with an exhibition of paintings by John Young and Herb Kane, two of Hawaii's fine artists, opening at Ramsay Galleries next Saturday.
