


Sadly, summer comes to an end with Labor Day for most. On the bright side, supermarkets offer some fabulous buys for the occasion, knowing everyone could use another reason to bust out the grill. Bright side of

the specialsBeef rib-eye steak is $3.99 a pound at Safeway. Bone-in rib-eye steaks are also also available at Star Markets for $3.69 per pound with the purchase of three pounds or more. Boneless top sirloin is $2.99 at Times Supermarkets.
At Daiei, frozen BBQ beef short ribs are $2.28. If you hurry, the store is also offering a one-day special today on boneless top round or London broil steak at $2.28 a pound.
Sack N Save has fresh chilled barbecue pork ribs for $1.87 a pound.
Other specials include watermelon at 12 cents per pound at Sack N Save with Maka'i Card (19 cents per pound without), or 10 cents per pound from Star Market. Sorry, they've set a one melon limit.
Honeydew melons are 39 cents a pound at Star and 37 cents a pound at Daiei.
White corn on the cob is selling at four ears for $1 with Royal Card, or two for $1 without. The price is good for your first eight ears and there are no rainchecks.
A one-pound clamshell box packed with strawberries is $2.89 at Safeway, where you can also round out your outdoors meal with russet potatoes for 49 cents a pound.
