Climbing a wall of glass

By Craig T. Kojima, Star-Bulletin

Masa Bentisino and Wayne Tingkang put the finishing
touches on a panel in the glass curtain wall on the Hawaii
Convention Center yesterday. The 100-foot panels weigh
3,000 pounds each, and are designed to resist earthquakes
and strong winds. The installation, completed yesterday by
Apex Curtain Wall Group, is the first of its kind in the world.

Below, Engineer Greg Romaine holds up an engraved square
of the type of glass used in the curtain wall. The convention
enter is slated to be completed in October,
and to open next summer.
