VARELA BREEZES: Gustavo Varela won the Holo Malie 5.2-mile run from Aloha Tower to Magic Island and back yesterday in 20 minutes, 51 seconds. James Sclabassi was second in 32:05.
Jody Mendez took the women's division in 37:35. Lauren Jaynes was runner-up in 38:25.
KELEKOMA COMES FIRST: At Acid Drops, Kauai, Daniel Kelekoma of Kauai won the Poipu Pro surf meet and $500 with his first-place finish yesterday.
The Poipu Pro was the first event in the two-event Garden Isle Pro-Am Series.
MANUIA BY NINE: At Waikoloa, Hawaii, Jaysen Manuia of Hilo led from start to finish to win the 54-hole Big Island Amateur Championship played on the Waikoloa Beach and King's golf courses this weekend.
