DEFENSIVE PLAY OF THE DAY: Eddie Klaneski hadn't been involved in a scrimmage in so long, the senior free safety was like a pit bull whose owner was late for supper. On the first scrimmage play that involved the No. 1 defense, Klaneski picked an errant pass out of midair and called it his own. Before the scout team on offense had time to react, Klaneski took the tipped pass off the hands of tight end Jimmy McClain and returned it 40 yards for a score.

INJURY REPORT: Starting offensive guard Gary Krug suffered a mild knee sprain early in the scrimmage but is expected to be back in the lineup for the season opener with Minnesota. Rufus Ayeni suffered a sprained knee and could be out as long as six weeks. Backup corner Ricky Lumford suffered a sprained neck in Tuesday's scrimmage, but was back on the field yesterday.

TRANSACTION WIRE: Stanford transfer Jauron Pigg hasn't heard anything from the NCAA on his petition to be cleared to play football this season. Incoming freshman Robert Parker hasn't heard anything yet, either, from the NCAA clearinghouse.

WEATHER REPORT: The weather remained cool at Aloha Stadium, thanks to intermittent showers that passed through the area. The temperature on the field was a comfortable 83 degrees.
