Promoting the Molokai escape

Vandale Dudoit Jr. sees the island of Molokai as a "getaway island" for people in Hawaii and also as a place for eco-tourism and cultural tourism.

"Residents of our sister islands . . . make up about 50 percent of our total annual visitor count," he said. "It's the peacefulness and sense of old Hawaii that attracts them. The more stressful life becomes in the big urban centers, the greater the need for a retreat like Molokai."

Dudoit has worked in the travel industry since 1976 and has been a partner in Kukui Tours & Limousines since the company was formed in 1990. He also worked with Robert's Hawaii and Grey Line Molokai.

Dudoit, who was born and raised on Molokai, is looking for new ideas. "I welcome the input of our members and the community at large with regard to broadening and enriching the visitor experience on the island," he said.
