title hopes aliveHawaii faces unbeaten Fairfield (Calif.) today in the double-elimination tournament. If Hawaii wins, the two teams will play again. The winner will advance to the Legion World Series in Rapid City, S.D.
Pitching with two days' rest, Kyle Ishimitsu struck out seven in getting the victory yesterday with relief help from Keith Nakamoto in the ninth inning.
Tony Oliveira had run-scoring doubles in the first and second innings for Hawaii.
UH SAILORS RANKED: The University of Hawaii's coed and women's sailing teams are both ranked 14th in the magazine Sailing World's preseason listing.
Last season, the UH coed team was ranked 15th in the preseason and finished No. 4. It opens its season in October.
The UH women's team begins its inaugural season next month.
EIGHT TENNIS TEAMS ADVANCE: Eight teams from the Hawaii Pacific Tennis Association have advanced to the national championship round of USTA League Tennis.
Women's sectional championship winners this past weekend were: Oahu -- Suzie's Zoo (3.0), Oahu C -- Pokela (3.5), Oahu B -- K2Tens (4.0) and Maui -- Tropical Storm (4.5). Men's winners were: Oahu C -- Village Park Dreamers (3.0), Oahu C -- Clock and Trophy (3.5), Oahu B -- Waiola Shave Ice (4.0) and Hawaii -- Robin's Hoods (4.5).
The championships will be held at various sites on the mainland during October.
