Name: Blair Bohannan
Age: 17
School: Kamehameha Schools
Future: Stanford University
"He seemed just like a normal guy." That's how Kamehameha Schools graduate Blair Bohannan described President Clinton after meeting him recently. A top scholar, and musical too
As a presidential scholar, Bohannan visited Washington, D.C., this summer for a week of ceremonies, which included the brief encounter with the president.
Of more than 2.5 million seniors graduating in '97, only 141 were chosen as presidential scholars. It's one of the highest honors bestowed on a high school student.
Selection is based on Scholastic Achievement Test scores -- Bohannan's were perfect. She also has a 4.067 grade-point average.
"It was good to go to the receptions and meet people who are successful in their fields," said Bohannan of her visit to the capital. "It's encouraged me to continue working hard."
"Blair has a lot of resilience and strength," said her mother, Nalani. "The last few years she's been active in everything."
Bohannan also is an accomplished flutist and pianist. She has traveled to Europe with a chorus and been a guest performer with the Hawaii Youth Opera Chorus. She participated in her school's marching band, where she organized fund-raisers and banquets.
After having her pick of several top universities, Bohannan will enroll in Stanford this fall, aiming for a double major in music and economics.
