GOOD FOR THIRD: At Omaha, Neb., Hawaii finished third in the Continental Amateur Baseball Association World Series for 13-year- olds yesterday after falling to Puerto Rico, 4-3, in a semifinal championship bracket game.
Earlier in the day, Hawaii rallied from a 6-1 first-inning deficit to defeat Iowa, 15-11.
TWIN SHUTOUTS: At Charles City, Iowa, Hawaii pitchers held two opponents to a total of three hits yesterday to post shutouts in the CABA World Series for 9-year-olds.
Hawaii beat Ohio, 4-0, on a two-hitter, then stopped Colorado, 2-0, as three pitchers combined on a one-hitter.
ALASKA'S LEAD TOO MUCH: At San Bernardino, Calif., Alaska built a 9-0 lead and held on for a 10-7 triumph over Kaimuki yesterday in the Little League Majors Division (11-12 years) West Regional.
GOLFING LONG DRIVE: The qualification and district qualification events for the RE/MAX North American Long Drive Championship will be held tomorrow at the Hawaii Prince Golf Club.

BARBERS POINT GOLF CANCELED: The Barbers Point Invitational golf tournament, originally scheduled for next week, has been canceled because of the installation of an irrigation system.
The 1998 invitational is tentatively planned for Aug. 29-31, according to course pro Robin Hashimoto. He said that two holes are being worked on but that the course is open for play with two temporary greens. The construction is expected to be completed by early December.
CHAMPIONSHIP DRAGS: Hawaii Raceway Park will hold its second major two-day championship race of the 1997 season this weekend. There will be a full program of Pro Gas classes tomorrow night along with a qualifying session for the Quick Eight eliminations which conclude Sunday.
The gates open at 4 p.m. Saturday. Qualifying and time runs last until 8 p.m. with the Pro Gas eliminations starting at 8:30 p.m.
The finals begin at 1 p.m. Sunday with gates opening at 9 a.m.
