Leading the Japanese chamber

After 18 years in the Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce, Leonard G. Katsarsky takes over its leadership.

"What has impressed me the most was how the membership, possessing diverse backgrounds, with diverse reasons for joining our chamber, can rally together to accomplish so many activities without fanfare," he said.

Katsarsky came to Hawaii in 1974 and is a marketing representative for John Hancock Financial Services of Hawaii. He has been chairman of the Japanese chamber's long-term care joint task force and a member of state Rep. Suzanne Chun's interim long-term care resource committee.

He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1959, and served in Vietnam before retiring in 1980. He was senior advisor to the Hawaii 29th National Guard Infantry Brigade and IX Corps, U.S. Army Reserve, Hawaii.
