Family Fishing Days: Catch and release tilapia at Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 5-6. Free admission. Bring bamboo poles with barbless hooks, bait, walking shoes, bug repellent, rain gear and a picnic. Parking is available at the Visitor Center, 45-680 Luluku Road in Kaneohe. Makiki Loop Trail hike: Moderate, 3-hour hike, July 5. Cost: $7. Reservations required. Call 955-0100.

Taro patch party: Children 4-years-old and up can learn Kalo's medicinal value, weed with their toes, and take home young plants to plant at home, 9:30-11:30 a.m. July 6, Hawaii Nature Center. Cost: $7. Reservations required. Call 955-0100.

Hawaiian Trail and Mountain Club: Nine-mile, intermediate hike to Pupukea Summit, 8 a.m. July 6. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Bring lunch and water, and wear good shoes and appropriate clothing. Cost: $2. Call 235-8330.

Polynesian Cultural Center: Tahiti-Marquesas Cultural Week, 1-6 p.m. July 7-12. Presentations on cooking, crafts, sports and dance. Park admission required. Call 293-3333.

Honolulu Zoo: Zoo opens at 8 a.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. General admission $6; $2 with Yum Yum Tree senior card. First Wednesdays feature a botanical tour at 8:45 a.m. for $2 more. Third Wednesdays, tai chi practice begins 8 a.m. Call 971-7174.
