Selling well for Hyatt at Poipu

Debbie Christie has been promoted to senior sales manager for the 600-room Hyatt Regency Kauai Resort & Spa in Poipu.

The hotel has seen business bounce back since it reopened six months after Hurricane Iniki hit Kauai in September 1992, Christie said. "We're running phenomenal occupancy this year," Christie said.

Last year she was named the hotel's employee volunteer of the year. Her community work included restoration/ cleanup of Poipu Beach Park and other parks and time with the Kauai Humane Society.

Christie began her career with Hyatt in 1990 in the food and beverage department, and was promoted to the sales department in 1992. She has 15 years of hotel experience and also worked for the Turtle Bay Hilton & Country Club on Oahu and Waiohai Resort on Kauai.

She earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Hawaii in 1980.
