OPENING

"Prom Queens Unchained": Manoa Valley Theatre takes you back to the 50s, 72 hours before senior prom, where an alien invader visits, a science student turns his right arm into a hamburger and a competition for the prom queen title exists. "Love! Valour! Compassion!": ASATAD presents Terrence McNally's Tony award-winning play which deals with gay themes, and contains adult language and nudity. "The Bad Seed": ASATAD presents the story of Rhoda Penmark which explores the controversial possibility that evil is genetic. At 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 4 p.m. Sundays, through June 22. Following the June 22 performance, an audience/cast seminar with a question-and-answer session about the artistic process of combining deaf culture and hearing actors will be held. Performances are by all deaf actors in American Sign Language and voiced for the hearing. The June 21 performance will be a benefit for the Aloha State Association of the Deaf. Cost: $10-$15. "Wild Meat and the Bully Burgers": Keith Kashiwada and John H.Y. Wat's adaptation of Lois-Ann Yamanaka's story of growing up in Hilo during the 1970s. "Alice in Wonderland": Hawaii Ballet Theatre performs the children's classic, 8 p.m. June 20-21, and 2 p.m. June 21-22, Leeward Community College. The program also includes "Eight By Benny Goodman," a collection of dance tunes performed by 14 dancers. A free "Mad Hatter's Tea Party" will follow each matinee. Cost: $15-$18. Reserved seating. AUDITIONS

"Children of the World": Children ages 6-12, who can sing, dance and act are wanted for Windward Mall's magical, musical fantasy. Open auditions, 1 to 5 p.m. June 21, center stage. The musical will tell the story of two alien children who come to earth to teach the animals to replenish life to the dying planet earth. Those auditioning must perform a prepared song, providing their own taped background, and a short joke. They also must be prepared to learn a dance routine.

"Eating Chicken Feet": Kumu Kahua Theatre's dark comedy about divorce, abandonment, suicidal impulse and the abasement of Chinese women consists of a seven-member cast and will run from Sept. 4-Oct. 5, with the possibility of a week's extension. Needed are three Chinese-American females, one of highschool age, another in her early 20's and another around age 45-55; two Chinese-American men, one in his early 20's and another around age 45-55; a Jewish-American man in his 20's; and a Filipino-American or African-American woman between the ages of 30-60. Auditions at the theatre are being held from 3-6 p.m. June 28; and 6-9 p.m. June 29. Call backs may be held 7-10 p.m. June 30. Scripts available for sign-out with a $10 deposit by calling 536-4222. "Grease": The Army Community Theatre is looking for nine males, eight females and extras for their production of this hit musical to run Sept. 4-20. Oahu Choral Society: Looking for experienced singers for its second season. The society will be performing with the Honolulu Symphony. Works include Mahler Second Symphony, the Poulenc Gloria, Messiah and Carmina Burana by Karl Orff. The society will also perform lighter Broadway pieces. All voice parts open.
